A farmer came to town with some pumpkins. He sold half of them plus half a pumpkin, and found that he had one whole pumpkin left. How many pumpkins did he take to town?

To my math, he had three. If he sold half of the three, he sold 1 1/2 pumpkins. Then he sold the 1/2 pumpkin leaving him with 1. Am i close?
Answer; He took 3 pumpkins to town.
